Week 4 blog

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in 3 paragraphs compare and contrast these 2 characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.

In my book Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson my character and Mr. Ross from our class's book The Wave are totally different. Ross is a teacher, while Ping is a little orphan girl. Ross is a married and knows who his family is, while Ping is not even sure who even gave birth to her let alone who shes related to. Ross has friends well you can say that his students are his friends. Ping herself has many friends ranging from an Emperor, to a dragon, to an old woman, and well to a little rat.

Ross is a grown man caught up in a class experiment that he made. He is a very self-centered husband, but has a very good sense of his wife. Ross knows his age and he acts it, but may not dress his age all the time. He is a very responsible man and he takes his work VERY serious, explaining why he is caught up in the class experiment. He seems to care about his students, and wife but doesn't show it all the time. He can be a loose teacher and let things slide but lately has been straight up strict in class. He is a teacher students are influenced by. Ross is an American, and I picture him as a tall, thin, dark haired, white guy in his mid 20s-mid 30s. On the other side there is Ping, she is a little orphan-girl undetermined of her age. She is so all work and no play. She loves to get things done and done right the first time. She is so selfless and she cares about everybody around her. She loves to help people...so maybe we connect on some level...right?

I personally connect with Ross more then Ping, because he is like me in my mind. He is a reflection to what I might become as I grow toward his age. I feel like I know him better than my own character. Ross is like my cousin in so many ways, 1:my cousin prefers to stay chill and he loves to hang, 2:Ross and my cousin are alike by their attitude, which is they are laid back, but prefer to be active, and they both love working. So there are many other reasons why I connect to Ross than my own character Ping, but those are the main two.

Week 3 Blog 4/18/11-4/22/11

Understanding my character(s)
(Be sure to include quote and page number!!)
You must use at LEAST 2 quotes from the book.
Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:
-1. your main character's personality
- 2. how they act/behave
- 3. what they look like
- 4. how old they are
- 5 what sort of education do you think that they have
- 6 who their friends and family are
- 7 what their financial (money) situation is
- 8 and what their job is (if they have one).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my book Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson it has a main character named Ping. Ping is a brave little orphan girl. She believes in freedom although she doesn't have any. She acts as if she lives a life worth 1,000 dollars. She doesn't care if she looks horrible, some would say she has high amounts of self pride.  She is a very uneducated little slave girl. I'm even surprised she can speak at all, because she has a hard time as it is when she tries to talk to anybody. She doesn't even know her own age!

Her friend Danzi (Imperial Dragon) has now had to leave her and fly away to freedom. She is now getting to know the Emperor so maybe she will become friend with him. She has no idea who her family is. She is poor in her personal financial situation but being with the Emperor she gets what she wants . She has a job as the Emperor's little assistant. The Emperor really wants her there so she stays as they are now traveling to a temple of which name I don't know.

Week 2 - April 4 - April 8, 2011

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My back cover of my book Dragon Keeper is really boring but it gives a great hint or hook to keep the reader wanting to read the book. From this description I can easily make alternate tittles.

Alternate tittle #1: She Is The Keeper
Alternate tittle #2: Within Me It Waits
If I were to give a catch phrase for this book it would be: Girl on the surface keeper within.

I would prefer to use tittle #2. The poster I am imaging is a dark maybe pitch black background with a golden dragon's face emerging. At the side of the dragon face is a tiny little helpless girl wearing a wore down dress stained with dirt and cooking oil. She would be trapped in a cage, and she would look afraid to face anything. Behind her would be a darker shaded version of herself but the version is standing proud and strong waiting for destiny to release itself. Toward the bottom of it would be the catch phrase in a mix of  silver gray color with white clouds at the bottom of the words. The second alternate tittle would fade in from the side in a light shaded silver gray with a wind blowing it into the picture.

Week 1 - March 17 - 18, 2011

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At this time I am reading Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson published by Scholastic Inc. Copyrighted 2003 by Carole Wilkinson.

The genre of my book must be Fantasy, because the name of the book is Dragon Keeper plus on th cover there is a dragon emerging from th clouds while a little man/woman gazing up at the giant beast.

The cover shows a imperial dragon coming in from the clouds while a man/woman is opening giant doors and gazing in amazement. The title is in a dark to light yellow color while showing a feature of dragon breath (being blown from th end of the R in keeper, as well as th R in dragon).

Master Lan: the owner of the slave girl named Ping. I had first met Master Lan when I open the cover and began to read.

Ping: the slave girl who takes on the journey with the dragon. I first met Ping on page 1.

Loa Ma: the semi blind palace maid basically. I had met her on page 4.

Danzi: the remaining dragon that goes along with Ping and they become close. I met Danzi on page 6.

Week 4 11.29.10 - 12.3.10

We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my book Maximum Ride: Saving The World and Other Extreme Sports has a main character named Maximum Ride, Max for short. She is the leader of
"the flock", or for you people who don't know the book "the flock" is the other children that are hybrids between human and bird. Max was in a situation that involved a animal vet, her arm, and a microchip. This situation was about max having an implanted microchip in her left arm. In the end she loses the ability to move her left arm from the elbow down. If i had been her I would have to decide between two decisions in my head which are either to not have the vet
( Dr.Martinez) remove the microchip from my arm, or if I did have her remove it and I lost the ability to move my arm from the elbow down I would have had her try to surgically remove my arm from the elbow down. The reaction I would have had when it was removed and found out my arm is pretty much useless, would have been me freaking out that I lost my arm and yelling I can't feel my arm, but I would do it in a way of not being all brusque and handle it calmly.

Week 3 11.22.10 - 11.26.10

1.Using your notes from your reading, summarize what is happening in your story using 2 examples from your book. Include at least2. one connection and3. one inference that you made while reading. Keep in mind the previous feedback that you've received so that you don't make the same errors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my book Maximum Ride: Saving The World And Other Extreme Sports  the whole flock minus Max and Fang are held against their will and they will not concede defeat. Meanwhile, Max and Fang are visiting two of Max old friends from the previous book Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Dr.Martinez, and her daughter help Max remove a micro-chip Max has embedded in her arm. "Someone took my other hand. Fang. I felt his luses, his bones, his strength" is one quote that shows the fear of Max during the operation to remove her micro-chip which is that she fells alone and afraid to be put under the needle and that she might lose the use of her arm, so when Fang takes her hand she starts to feel confident and not alone. Back to the other flock member and yes their talking flying dog Todo as well. "When we get out of this everyone of those robots is have fang marks on them" is the comment that Todo adds in to create a secret conversation between him and the other flock members so that the Robo-Erasers can't hear them. That quote shows the emotion of of Todo which is anger, and confidence himself even though he is not even half the size of the Robo-Erasers.

I have one big connection with the conflict of being held against my will which is that I have seen movies, and real life things that involve being held against peoples will to get a money ransom. I have another connection with this story which is that I know how it feels to see an old friend and having them do something sorta unusual. One of my inferences is that the flock, and Todo will be held against their will Intel Max and Fang free them. My other inference is that my author (James Patterson) is going to have Max come out of the operation with both fully functioning arms. So basically that's whats happening in my story so far.

Fixed responce to Tristan's question

Bryan, I think this is a good response the only thing that it needs is a little more details please other than that its awesome. What can you use to analyze your character better?.
